00:01:58: we will get to speak about that shortly but please tell us what has led you on a stage?

00:02:05: I have been on the stage since i was seven years old.. ..i moved to new york city from Arnold Missouri where i grew up dancing.... From grade school, junior high-high school.

00:02:19: I went to college and got a bachelor of fine arts in dance And moved to New York City at twenty years old To pursue a professional career In classical modern dance.

00:02:30: i danced all over the world The uh Libsson opera house The Paris Opera House The Vienna Opera House In Austria.

00:02:41: I have danced At the Brooklyn Academy Of Music At Lincoln Center

00:02:44: And

00:02:45: I moved into choreography, film television and theater directing producing.

00:02:53: What led me

00:02:54: to

00:02:55: pursue the career that I pursue now which is really supporting thought leaders like you in helping you to amplify an elevate your voice was that...I wanted to leave a lasting legacy by choice.

00:03:10: i do not have children And I did not know how to necessarily leave a lasting legacy.

00:03:17: So what I realized was my legacy was limited, too the length of time on stage and the number people in the theater when iI was dancing.

00:03:27: The legacy was extended A little bit When I started working In film and television because On this silver screen it lasts a Little bit longer.

00:03:34: But when I realized that could help thought leaders share their message?

00:03:39: Then People hearing them speak and then those people sharing their message, the ripple effect went way beyond what I was accomplishing when on stage as a dancer.

00:03:52: And that is why now from big stages we can unite humanity through

00:04:06: speech.".

00:04:07: I remember showing up in a triathlete of New York City when we... When i stepped on the stage for the first time and you were wearing a shirt that says, your voice matters.

00:04:24: And I remembered what this did to me and now-I understand it better than I can feel since that ripple effect is what does with people beyond what they think its possible.

00:04:36: Now also know how much it cost my courage resilience and to make the final choice, to step on stages.

00:04:45: And I googled it just now because i wanted to check if its still true.

00:04:50: speaking in front of audiences is STILL THE BIGGEST FEAR OF HUMANITY!

00:04:56: And Im Googling that regularly.

00:04:58: AND IT IS EVEN BIGGER THAN LOSING A LOVED ONE bigger than the fear of spiders & snakes.

00:05:05: but you have done this since age seven.

00:05:10: How can you or what?

00:05:11: Can you say someone who is thinking of taking a stage to become a speaker, to amplify their voice and becoming leader but fears stepping on the stage.

00:05:26: I'm not surprised that speaking publicly is still number one fear.

00:05:32: Jerry Seinfeld's famous quote most people would rather be in the casket than giving the eulogy at a funeral.

00:05:42: And the reality is, public speaking is terrifying and I'll speak to two parts of this...I have been on stage since i was seven years old in big stages.

00:05:55: Stages with thousands and thousands of people opera houses as well as smaller stages.

00:06:01: but the fear never goes away.

00:06:06: You learn how to coexist with it, you learned how to befriend.

00:06:09: And I'll give a specific tool that you can use.

00:06:13: but the one thing That i want to illuminate for your listeners all of The leaders who are listening All Of Your Listeners Who Are Leaders and Who Our Business Professionals?

00:06:26: And CEOs Is That I Have A Feeling Because You're Listening To This Podcasts In Your Innovana Orbit.

00:06:33: You're Very Generous Person.

00:06:36: You are very generous with your value.

00:06:38: Your very generous With your service and with your time, And you would never want to silence someone else's voice?

00:06:46: You would never judge someone else and when you are silencing your own voice or judging yourself You're violating your own principles.

00:07:00: That's the first thing I want you to start thinking about and reframing how you see The fear of speaking.

00:07:08: not only are you violating your own principles, but you are Not sharing your message with the person who needs to hear it and that also means yourself.

00:07:17: ish I know for a fact that the listeners Of this show or not selfish.

00:07:23: They're not judgmental And they are never gonna silence someone else's voice.

00:07:31: so if You can turn that on yourself and give yourself permission and the kind of love that you're giving your clients, it's time to get on stage so that one person is meant to hear from you.

00:07:45: Because when you share a message with someone who hears this, they can literally change or even save their life!

00:07:53: And THAT IS REALLY WISE LEADERSHIP AND THAT IS THE POINT AND RESPONSIBILITY THAT COMES WITH SPEAKING.

00:08:02: If you are someone who says, okay I hear you.

00:08:05: I'm going to be selfless of service and get on stage no matter if i want throw up in a bucket next me.

00:08:14: how do it?

00:08:15: because im terrified great.

00:08:19: You need learn how coexist with fear.

00:08:21: the first thing is its not about When you get on stage and you leave fear offstage, And you remember it's about the audience.

00:08:30: If you stop thinking what if I fall?

00:08:32: What if i fail?

00:08:33: What is sound stupid?

00:08:34: What are they don't like?

00:08:35: that im saying?

00:08:36: What have somebody said better before

00:08:38: me?".

00:08:38: That all about you!

00:08:40: You turn around to make an opinion of your audience.

00:08:43: how can serve them?

00:08:45: How do we connect with every single person in this room even when there're three thousand?

00:08:50: Then your fear goes away and you can really be of service to that audience.

00:08:57: The technique to doing this is rehearsing under mild pressure, your body will physiologically betray you.

00:09:07: when you step onto a stage mind still does.

00:09:11: butterflies in my stomach sweaty armpits dry mouth knees shaking.

00:09:18: At one point, many years ago I was holding a clicker and my hand was shaking uncontrollably that my slides kept advancing without permission.

00:09:37: It doesn't matter how long you've been on stage, How many stages?

00:09:40: You've been.

00:09:40: On the act of being up onstage in front Of other people creates a physiological response.

00:09:46: So what do is put yourself In that position before you take The stage so That you can create A confidence competence loop.

00:09:56: I am having a physiological Response and there's People in the audience my friends My family so thats rehearsing under mild Pressure.

00:10:04: the stakes are low Mm-hmm.

00:10:07: And then you just did it.

00:10:08: so, You know I can coexist with this fear and still deliver the talk and that increase That pressure.

00:10:13: maybe ask your colleagues to watch you deliver The talk and then increase that pressure a little more.

00:10:18: Maybe asked your fellow speakers Where there is gonna be some judgment whether you like It or not?

00:10:25: When you've taught yourself that you Can deliver while also feeling terrified Then you go out there and you can do both.

00:10:34: You can deliver that beautiful, powerful message while also having fear and nerves inside of your belly.

00:10:41: You

00:11:03: are afraid because you care.

00:11:07: And even now,

00:11:08: I

00:11:09: know you...I have done these interviews two hundred and twenty episodes by now.

00:11:14: Congratulations!

00:11:15: Thank-you.. I've been interviewed myself.

00:11:18: Now when we speak about the shaky hands, shaking knees there is a little bit of tension which i think it's good because my only goal To give you the stage and to give you, right?

00:11:33: Stage.

00:11:34: To amplify your voice while we are co-creating something meaningful in bringing it out to the world.

00:11:40: what has really been a game changer to me was like yes of course you're scared because you care.

00:11:44: You want to deliver.

00:11:46: you wanted too good.

00:11:47: you want to be intentional Because this is What makes us The leaders We Are And This Has Been For Me An Absolute Game Changer.

00:11:55: I Thought Oh i don't have to Be reckless!

00:11:59: I Can Still Care and still do my work.

00:12:02: And while those hands are news shaking, I guarantee everyone it will disappear as you step into your full power As you start delivering.

00:12:13: It'll get only better and better...and i think its practice.

00:12:17: It is practice!

00:12:19: The level of fear will rise & fall depending on how much you care, how comfortable you are in a certain environment.

00:12:29: I remember when I was dancing with Lucinda Childs and I was performing at the Austrian opera house.

00:12:36: she had never let anybody dance her solo before.

00:12:40: I was under study And we were on tour...I don't remember where but She had fallen and broke her arm.

00:12:47: so her arm was in a cast.

00:12:50: So this particular dance was choreographed in nineteen seventy-three to music by Philip Glass.

00:13:01: And

00:13:01: there was a video that was created in the same year, nineteen seventy three by Sol LeWitt and the film of her dancing.

00:13:08: this solo was projected onto a scrimm in front of the stage which meant you could see her doing the dance an I had two match that perfect perfectly in order for it to sync up.

00:13:24: And if any of your audience has ever listened to Philip Glass, It's impossible to count his music!

00:13:31: It is only able... You can only memorize you can't count it-it's not four eight..It's not six fourths ..not two fourths ...not six eight....you have to just memorize the song.

00:13:44: and I was so scared because I was alone on stage in this massive opera house that had so much history.

00:13:54: With a film, if I made one mistake you could see it!

00:14:00: Because i had to be in sync with the larger-than life image of Lucinda Childs from nineteen seventy three.

00:14:05: The pressure at that moment is like nothing ever experienced before and your right...I went onstage for twelve minutes or however long had a heightened experience of coexisting with the fear that fueled me in A way, but I have never danced like That.

00:14:29: I probably dance like that after that moment But being able to accomplish that gave me a level of confidence and command that i could Never Have bought Mm-hmm And I was forever Grateful for that moment?

00:14:46: I Had humility along With it but it also gave me a massive amount of confidence that I could do anything.

00:15:20: for our business.

00:15:22: I love this question because i think it's a mis-revenue stream if people aren't speaking but it also elevates you in the eyes of your customers, Because It gives You that credibility as The creator Of Your Business As the thought leader behind your concepts and methodology, your frameworks.

00:15:47: And what most People don't realize is you speaking on a stage, it doesn't stop there.

00:15:56: You speaking on the stage is an advertisement for what you offer.

00:16:03: last year I spoke fifteen times that's more than once a month on stages around the country and in addition to hard and soft compensation which is cash photo, video hotel referrals testimonials in addition to all of that because I don't speak for free.

00:16:28: I always negotiate compensation i brought in sixty seven thousand five hundred dollars worth of business

00:16:37: additionally

00:16:39: Additionally Because people saw me speak about what?

00:16:45: So people were signing up to work with me.

00:16:47: People are signing up for the big talk Academy, people who're signing Up To Work With Me one-on-one.

00:16:52: so when you speak on a stage The ROI goes way beyond what your being paid to speak at in those forty five to sixty minutes?

00:17:02: I highly recommend.

00:17:04: as A business owner You start getting on podcasts!

00:17:07: You Start Getting On

00:17:08: Panels!!

00:17:09: You Start Putting Yourself Out

00:17:11: There!!!

00:17:12: You Put Speaker In Your bio, you put speaker on your social media banners.

00:17:18: So in addition to being the founder and CEO ad speaker because people want to know that you are capable of talking about what it is that you teach?

00:17:28: And why-and What you're putting out there if you own a company... ...And You Are The Speaker & The Face Of That Company.

00:17:36: we need to see that!

00:17:38: And the ROI and the revenue stream beyond what you can imagine by just simply putting yourself out there as a speaker.

00:17:48: Yes, I'm confirming that being certified but at Big Talk Academy yes it is A job to get onto that business and pitch pitch pitch be rejected Be rejected again And then land What do finally want to have?

00:18:04: But when has happened?

00:18:05: in the meantime i Have had messages and invitations in my mailbox that I wouldn't have dreamed about.

00:18:14: Oh, That makes me so happy!

00:18:17: Yeah And this is because you put yourself out there.

00:18:20: You start and you do your work?

00:18:22: You show up...you do it again..and now i want to know from you Because I had a moment and I truly believe around with that for way too long.

00:18:35: I was overthinking whether i should join the big talk academy, or start public speaking... For all the mentioned reasons because it was great!

00:18:43: I was terrified to someone saying that it's me, Ivana Ivonek going to teach you this and then at that moment I dropped that.

00:18:55: That is my fear.

00:18:56: so four years straight overthinking it.

00:19:00: But I want to hear from you, Trisha because i know there is a better trick to it.

00:19:04: when?

00:19:04: Is if the right moment to start public speaking?

00:19:07: If someone is considering that and over thinking like me for half a decade

00:19:12: Right now The reason you're waiting are all the limiting beliefs.

00:19:19: I'm too busy wait till my kids go to college Wait til i lose five pounds, wait until i have a little bit more money in My bank account um...I'll wait Until uh..i move To the right city.

00:19:31: those Are All excuses.

00:19:33: Those Are Limiting Beliefs?

00:19:35: The Right Time to Step Into Your Thought.

00:19:38: Leadership as A Speaker is right now and the longer you wait, the longer put it off.

00:19:44: The longer we your audience has to wait for you.

00:19:51: And guess what?

00:19:52: We're gonna go find someone else!

00:19:55: WE DON'T WANT TO WAIT.

00:19:57: So why are you putting this off?

00:19:59: You're losing business.

00:20:00: You're preventing that person out there who needs to hear from YOU Again...you're violating your own principles.

00:20:09: The only reason that you are not stepping into thought leadership and owning being a public speaker is because, You might know how.

00:20:21: But guess what?

00:20:22: There's a bunch of people out here now who can teach you How.

00:21:12: There are million people saying they're public speaking coaches, many of them great or not.

00:21:19: we had to prove every single thing you say about our business.

00:21:24: They vetted us through the Better Business Bureau.

00:21:29: so If you are thinking about doing this, vet the people that you're going to work with.

00:21:36: Make sure they have results for their clients and make sure there's a right value fit because it is very personal experience or intimate when you do things correctly.

00:21:51: You can speak through your academy in New York but being on stage in front of everyone.

00:22:01: And when you choose to get up on stage and start that first day speaking in front all us, there's no hiding.

00:22:09: I mean your literally onstage.

00:22:10: theres lights on you You've got a microphone.

00:22:13: There is nowhere to hide Theres nowhere go.

00:22:17: When you decide step into thought leadership take the leap into becoming speaker.

00:22:25: Choose someone who can teach you technique because you getting on stage and winging it is gonna create problems for you in the future.

00:22:35: You getting on a stage, knowing how to masterfully use the art form of speaking script analysis performance delivery choreography blocking that's this speaker who gets booked And I

00:22:49: shortly want to confirm that recently was booked on a virtual summit.

00:22:55: I delivered a short ten minute talk, which was promised to be at lead generation thing.

00:23:02: And it was they deliver.

00:23:03: what is that the audience was right?

00:23:07: I generated i think one hundred leads overnight.

00:23:12: Wow!

00:23:13: But when we realized and here I want to just underline What you said I was by far

00:23:21: The

00:23:21: most credible speaker in their room.

00:23:26: So the summit did me one justice on one hand because I got what i wanted.

00:23:31: I reached my goal, but it didn't do me justice in The speaker I have become and I'm not saying that because I had so much experience.

00:23:55: Unsatisfying and this was a moment for me where I thought like, hmm.

00:24:01: And now I know why have been there?

00:24:04: Now I know by travel to New York City!

00:24:06: Now i know what I've done or struggled through... This has given really huge push that we need move from here and nothing less than that.

00:24:19: That's right.

00:24:20: Yeah, that's right.

00:24:21: You're a great speaker you are masterful speaker and have natural ability.

00:24:27: it was not hard for me to work with.

00:24:30: easy came prepared ready-to-work took into the next level now where play at elevation

00:24:41: Absolutely, and I recently found because i was trying to connect where this came from for my previous life.

00:24:48: Where I said you know...I wanted to be Beyonce!

00:24:51: I want it to be on stages but I could never sing nor really dance like Eutrisha or even coming from.

00:24:57: And what I have been doing in the past?

00:25:00: that there was a single sign of..i wanted to speak ..and I found photos recently clearing out the basement And I found a photo standing me in church.

00:25:12: In Church, and I remember that was the first one to say please me if anybody wants or is about ask you read something Or sing some thing?

00:25:25: It's always been my first role.

00:25:27: I knew it.

00:25:30: And

00:25:31: honestly, if anybody has that feeling, feels the call... ...I know Trisha said dream big because anything is possible everything you think is true and i am living proof.

00:25:46: Oh!

00:25:46: I have goosebumps.

00:25:48: Two of them sitting here Beautiful.

00:25:53: Trisha mentioned thought leadership And I know you wrote The Influential Voice, which was your first book.

00:25:59: I was highly inspired by it and he also wrote Your Second Book Being Smart Is Stupid Which is outline on a fresh perspective of leadership.

00:26:12: What has inspired You to write the book?

00:26:15: This is uh...a book that came to me when People started asking me, how is it that you know how to lead?

00:26:24: How is if they do have a run companies.

00:26:28: When I ask dancers or actors to be in shows They say yes before even knowing what the project is.

00:26:35: I own a fitness company That has been Alive for thirty plus years and i have trainers clients who've been with The Big Talk has been around since twenty seventeen.

00:26:51: And for you listening, if your in the online space at all You know that contractors come and go.

00:26:59: Well my contractors Come & Stay!

00:27:03: My new company, The Wise Leopard My team from the big talk.

00:27:08: They want to work with me on That project In that Company.

00:27:11: So now I have pretty much same Team working For both companies And people were asking, how do you do this?

00:27:18: You don't have a business degree.

00:27:19: You didn't go to Business School.

00:27:21: I did not Go To Business school.

00:27:22: i went to liberal arts college and I Have A bachelor fine Arts in dance.

00:27:28: So I started thinking I Don't know How I Do This.

00:27:32: If I can Deconstruct how I lead and how I create a culture Maybe I Can Help Others To Create Teams and Cultures That Are More healthy and positive, less toxic.

00:27:48: And be able to really change how we inherited leadership.

00:27:56: because let's be real, Ivana.

00:27:59: Leadership was inherited from a bunch of guys?

00:28:02: Yes!

00:28:05: When women inherit masculine leadership it does not serve us.

00:28:11: so because there's a lot of smart leaders out there who are making millions and gazillions of dollars, Who have big very successful companies but that doesn't mean they're wise.

00:28:27: That does not mean There is no wake up human dissatisfaction or suffering behind them.

00:28:35: So I am a Buddhist And how can i bring in Eastern philosophy an eastern point-of view to leadership?

00:28:43: Because thats How I lead through the lens of Eastern philosophy.

00:28:49: This is not a book about becoming a Buddhist, it's not religious books but leadership where I take you through nine pillars on how to lead from wisdom your Buddha nature instead being smart and ego-nature.

00:29:07: And this was very hard to write.

00:29:10: The influential voice wasn't easy.

00:29:17: deconstructing how I lead because I do this innately was very, very challenging.

00:29:47: well-versed Buddhist scholar because I am not.

00:29:54: in deconstructing my process, in service of wise leadership.

00:30:23: I loved the title.

00:30:25: being smart is stupid.

00:30:28: do you remember how you came up with that?

00:30:29: i do.

00:30:32: when i was writing the book and doing the research and calling out other leaders who are smart not necessarily wise okay...i just started feeling like oh don't they know like the damage to other human beings, being smart is stupid.

00:30:52: And it was really essentially just a rant you know of.

00:30:56: I was having a tantrum

00:30:58: and- Deep down?

00:31:00: Yes from deep down yes!

00:31:03: And i thought oh that's interesting.

00:31:05: That's probably the title.

00:31:07: and of course The Tag Is Why?

00:31:09: Embracing the Wisdom Of Your Buddha Nature Is The Secret To Great Leadership.

00:31:14: It's not a great title, it is an even better book.

00:31:18: I'm reading in the second time right now because it isn't only a blurb but also a book for implementation.
